Support Android Auto Integration #222

Open Reid-n0rc opened 5 years ago

Reid-n0rc commented 5 years ago

Please add support support for Android Auto on the phone screen and on car infotainment screens that support Android Auto projection.

Edit: I should add that I understand this would be a massive effort. It's definitely a nice to have, but if the team declines to take this on, I understand. Thank you for a wonderful product!

I'd love to, but as Android Auto is implemented currently, this will only give you Messaging, no maps intergration whatsoever.

I have implemented Android Auto in yaxim, which is a pure messaging app. Scroll down at the linked blog post for screenshots.

If APRS Mesaging is what you are looking for, I'll keep this issue open. It will require moving APRSdroid to a newer Android base though, so this is something for the 2.0 timeframe.

Wow, didn't notice I needed to reply!

Messaging would be nice to have. Of Course maps is ideal.

Popping back on this, was this added for messaging?

Maps would be sooo great on APRSDroid, Im curious what the technical limitations are keeping that from being added. Any info yall can easily share here?

Now, this has me interested. I haven't had a chance to look at the Android Auto API yet, but it seems like Maps integration should be possible just from my usage of both Waze, and Gaia GPS. The latter, in particular, seems like it should be using the same APIs that we'd need for APRSdroid, but I haven't looked underneath yet. I have used Gaia GPS as a tool when I need to do offline maps following a GPX track file.

May take a look at this if I have time this summer. I will have to get over my irrational dislike of Scala. :)
