@geckolinux

So, reporting over here after having this issue in TW and now Gecko rolling, yesterday started a "2232 package" upgrade in TW, took hours to not finish, this morning it went faster, took an hour to install all of the packages, and then shutdown. On cold boot machine boots to white window, no grub menu. Had to get the SG2 disk out and booted back into TW and ran "sudo grub2-install" and shutdown again.

On cold boot menu was back, so for humor I decided to boot the newish Gecko Plasma rolling install that I had done awhile back to try to "re-install grub" . . . for what was a similar duration since upgrade it appeared that Gecko only had 224 packages to upgrade and install . . . took about 15 minutes to finish and shutdown. On cold boot grub menu was again gone??? white screen returned.

I noticed in the package installations that it was "grub 2.04-32.1 noarch.rpm" that was installed. Over the last year plus on the ubuntu side they have been using this same 2.04 edition of grub, and from a bug report that I joined there, one of the posters said, "Grub 2.06 fixes this problem." So far grub 2.04 in TW and Gecko "creates the problem."

I filed a Bugzilla report for this issue that started in TW a couple of months back. I added again to it today; the dev there provided the "sudo grub2-install" command which he said, "Gets in front of shim." I don't "understand" that, but running that command does "re-install" grub. However, it is a "pain" to have to keep fixing this issue . . . and, none of the distros seems to be "immune" from or is actually "fixing" the problem. The problem is recurrent on my '12 cMP . . . but possibly on my Sys76 laptop, where I have an EFI partition for each of the three systems installed . . . maybe it isn't happening?? I'm going to run a zypper on it tomorrow morning . . . .
