"Swap not available"?? and other issues continuing . . . . #261

@geckolinux

Happy 4th of July to you . . . the continuing saga continues . . . . Overall very happy with my Gecko rolling install on my Sys76 laptop . . . a couple of issues have cropped up on the machine, possibly relating to "nvme" harddrive?? The most interesting issue right now is that after running a fresh install of the OEM Pop! 21.04 system due to some corruption that developed in the 20.10 system . . . now "swap is not available" on any of the three systems installed on the machine. And, there has been issues with "failure to revive from suspend via keyboard keystroke," that was only happening in Pop! . . . is now happening across the distros.

In GParted when I highlight the swap partition, in the "partition" tab it shows "swapon" . . . when I click that it brings an error, "swap not activated." In Systems Monitor "resources" it says in Gecko, "swap not available" . . . as it does in the Pop! and Manjaro installs. So the question is whether any of that matters, like in ubuntu they use a swap file rather than a partition, but still it is showing "issues" with swap.

And question is whether "suspend" has anything to do with access to swap, and if that has anything to do with failing to wake up from suspend? And why would running an install in another partition reach over and wipe access to swap in the other two systems, which never seemed to be an issue over the years of running multi-boot installs . . . systems always "found" the swap partition, etc.

Main thing is that when I'm at work I don't have an ext keyboard and if I will be away from the machine for a bit I "suspend" it from the drop down command menu . . . now won't wake up w/o hitting the power button.

And, even though I removed the "synaptics" file as per your suggestion in another thread, still typing with thumbs waving over touchpad will wipe data or move cursor to another spot and start typing there, etc. I have "disable while typing" checked, but if I want to type I have to remember to turn the touchpad off--this problem doesn't occur in Pop! or Manjaro, exclusive to Gecko.

Thanks for any thoughts on the problems.

Yep . . . thumbs over touchpad erasing data happened again today in Gecko . . . .

And "swapon" still shows "swap not activated" . . . .
