2 New Issues on Paper Mario? A crash and a major stutter... #200

Hi guys, new member here and I thought I'd report 2 issues with Glide64 I
haven't seen here before, there may be spoilers so watch out ;)

Issue no. 1:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start up Paper Mario and go into Peach's castle after Bowser kidnapped her
(you'll have to be pretty far in the game).
2. Go into any of the rooms on the first floor of the castle.
3. Get out of the room.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected output: You'll have to be back in the main hall of the castle.
What you see instead: Paper Mario will crash and will give a description of an
error on the screen.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Using Project 1.6 on Windows XP MCE. Glide64 and GlideHQ with the wrapper
downloaded from here: http://www.emuxhaven.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7202

Please provide any additional information below.

The weird thing is that this crash doesn't occur when going out of any of the
rooms on the SECOND floor of the castle. This crash only happens on the first
floor. Also, this crash doesn't occur when using other GFX plugins such as
Jabo's Direct3D6. I have included an attachment with the description of the
problem.

Issue no. 2

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Choose any texture enhancement in the Glide64 settings (such as HQ4X).
2. Start up Paper Mario.
3. Go into any of the interiors.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected output: The animation when Mario is going in to any of the houses
(house opening up etc.)should occur smoothly. However, what I see is that
during this animation the framerate drops drastically and the animation
stutters like hell.

Please provide any additional information below.

The stutter occurs also when choosing Star Attacks in a battle. This problem
occurs only when choosing a texture enhancement. I did find kind of a fix for
it though; checking the "Ignore Backgrounds" option will remove this stutter.
However I can't see the possible link between this and the stutter, seeing the
background quality of Paper Mario doesn't really change at all after checking
this box. That's why I wondered if there's a fix removing this stutter without
being dependant on the "Ignore Backgrounds" option.

As for the settings I use for Glide64, I have attached the Config.ini file ;).

Hope that there will be any fixes for these issues. My apologies if any of
these two has been mentioned before.

Greetings,

John

Issue no. 1:
Please give me a savestate to check.
Attach it here.

Issue no. 2
Use "Ignore backgrounds" option. Backgrounds textures are very large in case of
4x enhancement. All backgrounds textures are changed each frame when you enter
a house. This may slowdown any PC.

Did somebody try issue no. 1 yet? Although these rooms don't play an important
role in the gameplay, I hope to see a fix for this soon.

I did try your savestate and everything is working perfectly.
I don't think it is a glide64 issue.

Even if I use HQ4X and I don't check "Ignore backgrounds" option, there is no
noticeable slowdown when entering/exiting door.

Hmmm.. Did you try it with my Glide64.ini config file? Could you post yours?
Kinda weird it's I have these issues. Perhaps you're using another videocard?

Gon...: Did you test it yet? Now I'm kinda curious on how many ppl aren't
suffering from these issues.

Just use the official ini should be good enough.
Try to use 1964v1.1 and it could be your hardware/video card.

Damn, just tried 1964 and it's a lot more buggy than project64. Oh well, guess
I'll have to live with these issues. Still curious though how many people have
these problems on project64.

I can't reproduce the crash issue.

The game is known as sensitive to cheats. If you have any cheats enabled, it's
better to set them off.
