The (maybe/maybe not issue) I'd like to report is not directly related the gaggle software but about the communication on the gaggle's google group : (http://groups.google.com/group/gaggle-users/ ) I'm trying to subscribe and post an email, but it looks the list is moderated and/or I haven't been able to transmit my email.
Whouldn't this make sense to allow any post and ban users in case of abuse ? That whould allow easier and quicker way for futur members to join the gaggle community ?
In case I'm the one at fault, I whould add that I've tried several different source email and still not able to post email.
For the record my email was :
subj : small patches and how to help ?
Hi gaggle users and developpers,
I've just set up an android build environnement to hack a bit gaggle's source
code and I added a few tiny functionnalities for my needs (and still trying
to fight with a tougher bug, but more on that later)
If that is of interest to someone else, maybe I could propose my small patches
upstream ?
Is there a recommanded way to do so ?
Should I post them here https://github.com/geeksville/Gaggle/issues ?
Should I send them with git to a dev branch ?
Since I'm in no way a android nor java developper it would be better if
someone could review what I've done since I might have broken something or
not respected some "java good coding practices"
My changes (for now) are so thin that it shouldn't break things, but who
knows, I'm an android noob after all ;-)
A quick view of my changes :
1)
I couldn't compile gaggle with latest android SDK with error in all
strings.xml :
"Multiple substitutions specified in non-positional format; did you mean to
add the formatted="false" attribute?"
2)
I've added a few corrections to the french translation
3)
I've added support for two more openstreetmap providers
(www.opencyclemap.org and maps.refuges.info)
Also it might be much cleaner to let the user add them from a config option,
with possibly others but it works for now.
Also, since I've spent a few hours figuring how to compile gaggle, is there a
place where I could write a "howto for developpers" (like other package
dependencies, git commands that only the archives of this list are talking
about)
Is the github wiki a good place to put this ? an INSTALL file in the git
repository ? both ?
As a next step, I'm willing to add a gpx tracklogs export menu along
kml/igc/csv format (sometimes I prefere this file format to igc), is this
desirable ? is anyone interested ?
Thanks for reading if you managed to reach this end of my email ;-)
(Sorry if that emails ends being a duplicate, it looks like I have issues with
