That's strange; I have not seen this issue when following the instructions and just running docker build .

Yeh I've just run into an issue with this and pytz
.
For some reason the default timezone in /etc/timezone
is set as /UTC
(missing an area), as opposed to Etc/UTC
in ubuntu 18.04
As at least a temporary fix, RUN echo "Etc/UTC" > /etc/timezone
works
You could also add build args like this https://github.com/containers/podman/issues/7398#issuecomment-678543836
or use my PR https://github.com/geerlingguy/docker-ubuntu2004-ansible/pull/3
But I've not yet found out which timezone is set with this. But it seems good practice to add DEBIAN_FRONTEND=nointeractive
somewhere.
Fixed via #7 — thanks!
Very odd... now I'm getting this again after switching from ENV to ARG:

Potentially related, I came across this bug in the ubuntu image recently: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/+bug/1899343
Just tried building this image with rootless Podman and it asks for the area I live in and the timezone. I think it should build without asking questions.
