I'm currently getting the following message repeated ad infinitum when I first boot the VM with the High Sierra ISO mounted:

Attempting system restart...MACH Reboot

Ah, I was running the VBoxManage modifyvm command incorrectly. Installation proceeding now, we'll see how well it works!
