Quest items #55

The area north of the sleeping man, the slime cave, the southern forest, and the wolves' den all are good places for hiding some quest item.

These items could all be requirements for Garnet to have the power to save her Dad, along with mastery of her "hypnosis" necklace and the Muramasa sword.

The slime caves, and south forest could very well be used for quest related content. The issue with the south forest is that people are having issues with performance given its size, but it does have a "boss", the queen bee, and rewards scattered around the place. The slime caves has a similar structure with a slime boss at the end, and has a reward at the end, but is not directly connected to a quest.

There is the possibility that a simple extermination quest may be issued in one of the towns (most likely Carthage) where the player is given the task to kill one of the bosses for a reward (possibly repeatable). The simplest reward would probably to give the player gold to spend on whatever they like.

As for quest items as rewards, I'm slightly careful when introducing new content that may alter the balance of the game. There are a number of rewards currently in the game that's causing some issues with the combat, and I really don't want to add to this.

Alternative rewards (rather than equipment) could be items used in specific situations, e.g. unlocking new locations, helping the players in specific situations, or as a buildup for a larger reward. I guess these are more likely to be the quest related items, and by exploring the locations maybe you could find pieces of the broken sword that can be reassembled (but not required) for the end game.

The mastery of the necklace would probably come from the interactions with other people, so this perhaps wouldn't be the best done in the places mentioned above (in their current state). The wolf town is intended to have at least two characters, so the concept could definitely be explored here. The impact of ultimately mastering the necklace still remains unknown though.

I didn't necessarily mean that the areas mentioned should be related to Garnet mastering control of her necklace, just that mastering the necklace could be a requirement for the end game (or at least help in some way to complete it).

That probably very doubtful. If the necklace is a requirement for completing the game, it has to be implemented properly story wise and be required a number of times before the end game. It's possible that it will have an impact on the end game, if the player decided to use it, but shouldn't be a requirement given how the game currently plays out.
