There are two good sources of information for this issue: 1) StackOverflow (https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2018/#technology), which produces a ranking every year. The ranking is based on a survey. The database ranking for 2018 is a result of a survey with 63k respondents who are professional developers.
2) DB-Engines (https://db-engines.com/en/ranking), which is a ranking that takes several information sources as input (mentions in job posts, # of searches in Google, mentions in StackOverflow, number of profiles in Linkedin that mentions the systems, among others (the complete list is here: https://db-engines.com/en/ranking_definition). This ranking is updated monthly.
