'response to acid' terms - recuration needed please #1204

Stemming from curators' requests and following discussion among GO editors at a recent ontology jamboree, we edited the GO terms for 'response to acid', 'response to acidity' and their 'cellular' and 'stress' children, in an attempt to clarify if the cell or organism is responding to the chemical structure of an acid chemical or rather to lowering of the pH (caused by an acid chemical acting as a proton donor). Following these clarifications, we added the following terms to the subset of "do not manually annotate":

GO:0001101 response to acid chemical (was previously named "response to acid") GO:0071229 cellular response to acid chemical (was previously named "cellular response to acid")

In the terms' definitions and definition comments, we provide guidance for appropriate rehousing of annotations. Below is the count of all manual annotations (not just experimental) to these terms, per database, as of Aug. 22nd 2014:

GO:0001101 response to acid chemical (was previously named "response to acid"): CACAO 1 EcoCyc 6 MGI 5 MTBBASE 2 RGD 17 SGD 9 UniProt 7 WormBase 2

GO:0071229 cellular response to acid chemical (was previously named "cellular response to acid"): ASPGD 10 BHF-UCL 2 CGD 4 EcoCyc 2 EcoliWiki 1 FlyBase 1 MGI 13 RGD 2

If your database is in any of the lists above, could you please take action. As said, sufficient guidance for re-annotation should already be provided in the terms' definitions and comments, but feel free to contact the GO editors if anything is unclear (go-ontology@mailman.stanford.edu).

In addition, we think that the following annotations should also be rehoused:

UniProt annotations to GO:0097533 cellular stress response to acid (now renamed 'cellular stress response to acid chemical') to D0ZKX9, D0ZSY8, D0ZSY9, based on PMID:19170886;

and

EcoCyc annotation to GO:0097533 cellular stress response to acid (now renamed 'cellular stress response to acid chemical') to P64508, based on PMID:19734312

These should probably be rehoused to GO:1990451 cellular stress response to acidity (now renamed 'cellular stress response to acidic pH').

For reference, ontology discussion is here: https://sourceforge.net/p/geneontology/ontology-requests/10492/

Many thanks in advance for your help with this!

Paola, on behalf of the GO Editors.
