Dear all,

The proposal has been made to obsolete GO:0080111 DNA demethylation GO:1901536 negative regulation of DNA demethylation GO:1901537 positive regulation of DNA demethylation GO:1901535 regulation of DNA demethylation

The reason for obsoletion is that this represents a molecular function. New BPs have been created to capture the processes DNA demethylases are involved in: GO:0141166 chromosomal 5-methylcytosine DNA demethylation pathway GO:0141167 hromosomal 5-methylcytosine DNA demethylation, oxidation pathway GO:0141168 chromosomal 5-methylcytosine DNA demethylation, oxidative deamination pathway GO:0141169 chromosomal 5-methylcytosine DNA demethylation, direct 5-methylcytosine excision pathway

consider also GO:0044029 positive regulation of gene expression via chromosomal CpG dinucleotide demethylation

Annotations to be reviewed are here: https://github.com/geneontology/go-annotation/issues/4844

BHF-UCL 3 EcoCyc 2 EcoliWiki 1 FlyBase 1 MGI 11 Reactome 1 TAIR 19

And the following mappings: InterPro:IPR040175 Methylcytosine dioxygenase TET1/2/3 > GO:DNA demethylation ; GO:0080111 InterPro:IPR044811 DNA glycosylase, plant > GO:DNA demethylation ; GO:0080111 InterPro:IPR039345 Protein STPG4 > GO:positive regulation of DNA demethylation ; GO:1901537 UniRule:UR001350777 > GO:DNA demethylation ; GO:0080111

These terms are not present in any subsets.

You can comment on the ticket: https://github.com/geneontology/go-ontology/issues/27590

We would like to proceed with the obsoletion on Friday April 19th, 2024.

Thanks, Pascale
