Should there be children for the different kinds of viral genomes?

• circular ssDNA
• circular dsDNA
• linear dsDNA
• dsRNA
• plus strand RNA
• minus strand RNA
• retroviral (the only one that already exists)

Should retroviral genome replication be a child of plus strand RNA viral genome replication?

I am not addressing segmented genomes here, as I'm not sure they need distinct children of genome replication. But I'm not sure.

For viral gene products we can infer the genome type, but we would also use these terms for annotation of host factors required for viral genome replication. This leads to the problem of how to indicate that a host factor is required for replication of a specific virus and might not be needed for others. I would be opposed to precomposing terms for different viruses, since there are ~10^14 phage out there, and the species concept for viruses is even more problematic than for bacteria.
