Request for transferrin receptor binding term #11261

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

gocentral commented 10 years ago

Please may I have a new GO term transferrin receptor binding to annotate information in PMID 9819414 page 7283. This requested term would be a child of GO:0005102 receptor binding. The closets close reference I can find for a family in InterPro is Transferrin receptor protein 1(IPR029513)

Please may I also have the term Leptin receptor binding. This will be a child of GO:0005102 receptor binding and the InterPro cross reference is Leptin receptor (IPR015752)ta

Could you capture this information using 'receptor binding' + col 16 has_direct_input UniProtKB ID of the receptor bound by your gene product?

Hi Tanya and Prudence,

Prudence and I discussed this briefly in the office - apologies if there was any confusion. My understanding from Becky was that as part of the signaling work it was agreed to accept gene-product specific terms for receptor terms if the signaling downstream really displays differences based on the particular type of molecule bound. However for receptor binding terms Becky confirmed that we should try and represent binding to a family rather than to a specific gp where possible. Looking at the InterPro entries that Prudence suggests, it looks like those are indeed specific gps (no other family members) so Prudence I'd go with Tanya's suggestion unless your references show that the specific binding with transferrin (or leptin) gives rise to a specific signaling pathway (do we have terms for that if needed?).

Thanks and have a nice day :-)

Me again. It appears that the transferrin and leptin that Prudence's references are about are indeed for a family of receptors, but InterPro doesn't have entries for these families yet. So I'd ask Tanya to create the terms please :-) and Prudence will contact InterPro to ask for the new family entries. The latter will take time, so I'm not sure we should include the current InterPro references in the new GO terms?

Ok. I'll create the terms later today.

Can add the IPRO xrefs at a later point in time.
