There's no is_a path back to DNA metabolic process, so there is no inference that "the “donor selection” part of mating-type switching is a DNA metabolic process."
If 'mating type switching' itself is not a 'DNA metabolic process', then I can remove that. From a quick review, it looks like it would be sufficient for these children to be classified as types of 'DNA metabolic process':
'gene conversion at mating-type locus, DNA double-strand break formation' 'gene conversion at mating-type locus, DNA double-strand break processing' 'gene conversion at mating-type locus, DNA repair synthesis' 'gene conversion at mating-type locus, termination of copy-synthesis' (?)
Do you agree?
Cheers, David

I am not convinced that the “donor selection” part of mating-type switching is a DNA metabolic process (it seems to be an chromatin accessibility issue), in which case DNA metabolic process should only be an ancestor of the “GO:0007534 gene conversion at mating-type locus” term, and not the entire mating-type switching process

yep, I think only the donor selection part isn't. it seems to be via chromatin remodelling, where DNA isn't metabolised....
