Hi, I would like to ask for a new term as below or better suggestion.

NTR: locomotor gait pattern

Definition: The gait pattern of the locomotor activity of an organism. Gait pattern is the pattern of movement of the limbs of animals during locomotion over a solid substrate. (as defined by Wikipedia)

Parent term: is_a GO:0007626 locomotory behavior

PMID:22932389

Thanks,

Jinhui Zhang

David - may I request your input on this request, please?

Locomotory behavior def: The specific movement from place to place of an organism in response to external or internal stimuli. Locomotion of a whole organism in a manner dependent upon some combination of that organism's internal state and external conditions.

From the provided PMID abstract: "Here we show that a premature stop codon in the DMRT3 gene has a major effect on the pattern of locomotion in horses. The mutation is permissive for the ability to perform alternate gaits and has a favourable effect on harness racing performance." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22932389

Thanks very much.

Hi Tanya,

It seems to me that this should be related (narrow synonym?) to walking behavior. Currently we have adult walking behavior and larval walking behavior.

adult walking behavior-The behavior of an adult relating to the progression of that organism along the ground by the process of lifting and setting down each leg.

From the def, this would include running.

What do you think?

Hi David,

Thanks very much for the input. I think that you are right!

I think I will add a new term called 'walking behavior' that will be a parent to both existing GO terms, 'adult walking behavior' and 'larval walking behavior'

Jinhui - I will add 'locomotor gait pattern' as a narrow synonym to this new term. This way, it will apply to animals at any stage in life, not just adults.

What do you both think of this plan?

Thanks,

Tanya

Added:

+id: GO:0090659 +name: walking behavior +namespace: biological_process +def: "The behavior of an organism relating to the progression of that organism along the ground by the process of lifting and setting down each leg." [GOC:tb] +synonym: "locomotor gait pattern" NARROW [] +is_a: GO:0007626 ! locomotory behavior +created_by: tanyaberardini +creation_date: 2015-08-27T16:34:28Z

and added additional parentage to this term for the existing adult and larval terms.
