general regulation term in process

Hi,

There is a term in function: GO:0030234 "enzyme regulator activity", but there is no corresponding process (at least that I could find.

Perhaps there should be two new terms: new term1: "regulation" parent: biological process GO:0008150 definition: The process where one gene product controls the activity of another by mechanisms such as changing gene expression, modification, or allosteric interaction.

new term 2: "enzyme activity regulation" parent: new term 1 definition: The process of modulating the activity of an enzyme.

New term 1 would be particularly useful for GO Slims that want to group together all regulatory proteins. Additional children of new term 1 could also help with GO Slims.

I think the term string would be better as 'regulation of biological process' but it seems logical to have a general regulation term. It would be an is-a parent of biological process since regulation is a process. All the other regulation terms would then be children of it.

Hi Amelia, This sounds fine to me. But did you mean that "regulation of biological process" would be an isa child term of biological process (rather than isa parent of biological process)? I didn't think the ontology roots could have parents. Thanks, Michelle

Adding in all the appropriate relationships is proving to be rather nasty so I will have to postpone the addition until I've got them in.

I've added the following terms: GO:0050789 regulation of biological process GO:0050790 regulation of enzyme activity GO:0050791 regulation of physiological process GO:0050792 regulation of viral life cycle GO:0050793 regulation of development GO:0050794 regulation of cellular process GO:0050795 regulation of behavior

The relationships are coming slowly - I have found various regulation terms which needed to be corrected (the names didn't match the process they were regulating) so I spent a bit of time doing that yesterday.

Also added missing term: GO:0050796 regulation of insulin secretion
