definition of taste #1449

Hi,

Gillian (a FB curator) pointed out that the current definition of taste is a bit mammal-centric.

term: taste goid: GO:0007607 definition: The series of events required for the chemical composition of a soluble stimulus to be received and converted to a molecular signal by the taste buds in the tongue and throat. definition_reference: GO:jl definition_reference: ISBN:0395825172

In adult flies, gustatory organs are present at many sites including the proboscis and mouth surface, but also on the legs and wing margins.

Therefore, does anyone mind if I shorten the definition to:

definition: The series of events required for the chemical composition of a soluble stimulus to be received and converted to a molecular signal.

Thanks,

Becky

Could we name this to something like 'perception of taste'? "Taste" itself is a bit vague.

Yes, I remember this from that movie "The Fly" starring Jeff Goldblum. It is fine with me.

Actually I just noticed that this is fixed in the new physiology, so we should hold off.
