trichome differentiation GO:0048271 #1652

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

Hi Jen,

Could you remove this term from the 'hair cell differentiation' part of the tree? The hair cells in this case are entirely different entities than root hairs.
(Also, it becomes a child of 'mechanoreceptor differentiation'.)

Thanks,

Tanya

Hi Tanya,

I'm not quite sure what you mean there. Do you mean that a trichome is not a hair cell? Is there something in these terms that is not obvious from the definition and maybe I could make that clearer?

Thanks,

Jen

Hi,

Midori just explained what this is about. She mentioned about another sourceforge item in which is was suggested that the term name of hair cell differentiation should be changed to make it clear that this just includes inner ear hairs [ 905666 ] mechanoreceptor differentiation.

I would find it very helpful to have that term name changed. Would you?

Suggestion from David Hill:

how about changing the term to be auditory hair cells?

Yes, changing 'hair cell differentiation' to 'auditory hair cell differentiation' would help in preventing misuse of this term by plant curators who are thinking 'trichome' when seeing the term. It also makes it clear that 'trichome differentiation' does not belong as a child of this term.

Thanks,

Tanya

I'll do this on Monday if nobody objects.

I have fixed that now.

Changed GO:0042491 ; 'hair cell differentiation' to 'auditory hair cell differentiation'

Moved it's child 'trichome differentiation' ; GO:0048271 to be a child of 'cell differentiation' ; GO:0030154 instead.

This should solve this problem.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Jen
