New IsA links in binding (GO:0005488) (III) #1898

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

gocentral commented 20 years ago

This is the third (and last) round of new relationships inferred in the GONG project (http://gong.man.ac.uk),
about the binding subontology. I post them here (attached in a file) so the curators can check them and add them to GO if suitable. I will start next week with transporter activity.

Thank you.

I've put in some of these links. Here are the troublesome ones:

New IsA link: NADPH binding (GO:0050661) IsA purine nucleotide binding (GO:0017076) [no] New IsA link: platelet derived growth factor binding (GO:0048407) IsA peptide binding (GO:0042277) [no]

New IsA link: peroxisome targeting signal receptor activity (GO: 0005051) IsA peptide receptor activity (GO:0001653) [hmmmm. PTSs are peptide sequences but they're in a protein, so not sure this is really true.]

New IsA link: peptide YY receptor activity (GO:0001601) IsA hormone binding (GO:0042562) New IsA link: somatostatin receptor activity (GO:0004994) IsA hormone binding (GO:0042562) New IsA link: vasopressin receptor activity (GO:0005000) IsA hormone binding (GO:0042562) [these are correct but I am not sure about having 'receptor activity' terms as children of 'binding' terms. I guess it's OK though. Hmmm]

New IsA link: Transforming Growth Factor beta binding (GO:0050431) IsA peptide binding (GO:0042277) [possibly... but apparently cytokines are proteins, which causes some trouble]

New IsA link: ubiquinone binding (GO:0048039) IsA coenzyme binding (GO:0050662) [yes, but need to check cofactor / coenzyme placing and defs]

Of the remaining relationships:

New IsA link: peroxisome targeting signal receptor activity (GO: 0005051) IsA peptide receptor activity (GO:0001653) -- PTSs are in a protein, so it's really protein receptor activity => NO.

Not going to put in the receptor activity / binding activity links as there is an SF item about this (1007941 - X receptor and X binding relationships).

New IsA link: Transforming Growth Factor beta binding (GO:0050431) IsA peptide binding (GO:0042277) -- there isn't a clear def of 'protein' (vs polypeptide) in GO, but there are forms of TGFbeta which are definitely proteins, not peptides => NO.

New IsA link: ubiquinone binding (GO:0048039) IsA coenzyme binding (GO:0050662) -- this will go in once the SF item 1028453 - cofactors, coenzymes, vitamins and prosthetic groups is implemented => SOON.
