@pgaudet I am a bit confused by the logic here - although transporter SLC5A1 (P13866) is classed as a glucose transporter, it still can have GO:0015593 allose transmembrane transporter activity. Seems to me that this would be better solved by having a this term: GO:0015615 ABC-type D-allose transporter activity defined as primary active transporter activity and GO:0015593 allose transmembrane transporter activity under secondary active transport.
Sorry about the confusion. The papers say that allose is transported by glucose transporters. The rule we had made to create/keep terms is that the term should correspond to the level of specificity of the enzyme. In this case we would recommend to use the monosaccharide transporter activity with input allose.
Does this seem OK ?
I am not sure, seems like it might be difficult to be consistent here. On the other hand, we don't want an over-proliferation of terms.
I had a chat to @sjm41 and @rozaru about annotation of transporters last week. Perhaps it would be good to get together as we are a bit at sea as to how to do things consistently. Do you have time to chat tomorrow, as we are all in the office.
Dear all,
The proposal has been made to obsolete GO:0015593 allose transmembrane transporter activity
The reason for obsoletion is that there is no evidence that there is another allose-specific transporter that the bacterial ABC allose transporter (GO:0015615 ABC-type D-allose transporter activity). In mammals, allose is transported by the glucose transporter SLC5A1 (P13866), see for example PMID:34381987. There are no annotations to this term; this term is not present in any subset.
