lipid bilayer

The component term "lipid bilayer" is a child of "plasma membrane part". "lipid bilayer" is defined correctly to occupy this position in the graph, but there are lipid bilayers that are not plasma membrane parts, such as mitochondrial membranes. To clarify the meaning of the term, perhaps the term name for "lipid bilayer" should change to "plasma membrane lipid bilayer"?

This doesn't quite work, because "lipid-bilayeredness" is both a chemical feature and a bunch of shared features (flexibility, impermeability to water and polar molecules) shared by a number of membranes - plasma, mitochondrial outer, vesicle, nuclear lamella, etc. Making it a part-of child of all those kinds of membranes creates one of those network tangles in the ontology, but creating separate lipid bilayer children for each membrane type would lose this shared feature, wouldn't it?

I am asking for this specific term 'lipid bilayer' (GO:0005904)to have it's name ammended so its name is not ambiguous. The term does not need to move or get new children. As it is defined, 'lipid bilayer' (GO:0005904) represents specifically the lipid bilayer of the plasma membrane, and should neither be a child of, nor have children like "mitochondrial outter membrane" etc.

If there were going to be common parent for all the lipid bilayers, I think that would be a new term named "lipid bilayer"....hence the need for the name of GO:0005904 to change first.

p.s. Does anyone want a generic 'lipid bilayer' term, and child terms for other membranes? GO:0005904 is used in exactly ONE annotation at present ...
