ntr repeat stability #3591

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

gocentral commented 18 years ago

I'm annotating some of the ref genome papers for msa2/3/6. It seems that Msh2,6, and Pms1 have an importent role int eh maintenence of tract length variation in nulceotide repeats.

~So could we have a term (child of DNA metabolism?)

DNA repeat stability.

def the maintenence of tract length variation in nulceotide repeats

hmm. DNA repeat stability sounds like a trait rather than a process. How about 'regulation of DNA repeat stability' or 'regulation of DNA repeat copy number' or some such?

OK, I knew it seemd like an odd term but I couldn't work out why.

Its probably good to have a process because it is probably analogous to the processes which allow repeat expansions in telomerically encoded cell surface proteins (I tink there was a S. cerevisiae paper on this recently).

There is a term maintenance of DNA repeat elements def Any process involved in sustaining the fidelity and copy number of DNA repeat elements.

which I considered but rejected becasue the def refers to large tandem repeats. However I think it xould be a child of htis term, if the def was broadened?

(there appears to be a child specific for rDNA repeats)

the term could be maintence of microsatellite repeat copy number? or similar?

Why can't you use the term 'maintenance of DNA repeat elements' (GO: 0043570)? The bit you copie is the entire def; it doesn't say anything at all about what kind or length of repeat. (In fact the child term 'maintenance of CRISPR DNA repeat elements' GO:0043571 sounds like it's not about large tandem repeats.)
