added aminoglycoside nucleotidyltransferase activity GO:0034068
for the moment I've renamed and redefined as follows: GO:0008871 now 'aminoglycoside 2''-nucleotidyltransferase activity' GO:0009012 now 'aminoglycoside 3''-adenylyltransferase activity'
can make GO:0009012 "nucleotidyl" if that's what you prefer

oops, ignore that; it was supposed to go in SF 1862141 ....

OK, this is what I did for this one:
added aminoglycoside N-acetyltransferase activity GO:0034069 aminoglycoside 1-N-acetyltransferase activity GO:0034070
merged GO:0016991 into GO:0046353 (see below for name)
renamed and moved to is_a GO:0034069, defs adjusted to match names, and some synonym movements: GO:0046353 now 'aminoglycoside 3-N-acetyltransferase activity' GO:0047291 now 'aminoglycoside 2'-N-acetyltransferase activity' GO:0047663 now 'aminoglycoside 6'-N-acetyltransferase activity'

Hello,
Similarly we have
GO:0046353 (aminoglycoside N3'-acetyltransferase activity) GO:0047663 (aminoglycoside N6'-acetyltransferase activity) GO:0016991 (gentamicin 3'-N-acetyltransferase activity) GO:0047291 (gentamycin 2'-N-acetyltransferase activity)
These are all activities of the products of the AAC family of genes.
So: we would like as a parent term "aminoglycoside N-acetyltransferase activity", def "Catalysis of the reaction: acetyl-CoA + aminoglycoside = CoA + N-acetylaminoglycoside."
Going by the diagram on this page: http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/bugdrug/antibiotic\_manual/aminoglycosideresistance.htm and by this paper: http://dx.doi.org/10.1012/cr0301088, which says:
"These enzymes catalyze the acetyl-CoA-dependent N-acetylation of one of the four amino groups of typical aminoglycosides [figure]. They include enzymes that acetylate the 1- and 3-amino groups of the central deoxystreptamine ring and enzymes that acetylate the 2'- and 6'-amino groups of the primed [note: this means that the numbers have primes on them, not any sort of chemical sense of the word 'primed'], 6-deoxy-6-amino-glucose ring."
it would seem that we need to merge GO:0016991 and GO:0046353, because the only difference between them is that they describe different gene products (with different EC number, like the awful mess in EC with the proteases) which basically do the same thing.
We therefore need a new term for the enzymes that catalyse the acetylation of the 1- amino group:
name: aminoglycoside 1-N-acetyltransferase activity def: "Catalysis of the reaction: acetyl-CoA + aminoglycoside = CoA + 1-N-acetylaminoglycoside. This is acetylation of the 1- amino group of the central deoxystreptamine ring."
Then the merged term needs renamed and redefined as follows: name: aminoglycoside 3-N-acetyltransferase activity def: "Catalysis of the reaction: acetyl-CoA + aminoglycoside = CoA + 3-N-acetylaminoglycoside. This is acetylation of the 3- amino group of the central deoxystreptamine ring."
And then the other two become "aminoglycoside 2'-N-acetyltransferase activity" and "aminoglycoside 6'-N-acetyltransferase activity" with the last sentence of their definitions being "This is acetylation of the 2'- amino group of the 6-deoxy-6-aminoglucose ring." and "This is acetylation of the 6'- amino group of the 6-deoxy-6-aminoglucose ring."
Then the accumulated synonyms become EXACT or NARROW depending on whether they refer to a specific aminoglycoside or not.
I think that all makes sense.
Best wishes, Colin.
