hemopoietic terms #4732

I'm annotating the tal/scl genes at the moment, which play key roles in hemopoiesis.

Vertebrate hemopoiesis occur in 2 waves: primitive hemopoiesis definitive hemopoiesis

The current embryonic and post-embryonic hemopoiesis terms don't easily encompass this (primitive is embryonic, definitive appears to often start in the embryo and continue in the adult). Therefore, could I have some new terms please:

hemopoiesis ; GO:0030097 --%embryonic hemopoiesis ; GO:0035162 ----%primitive hemopoiesis ; GO:NEW ------<hemangioblast cell differentiation ; GO:NEW --%definitive hemopoiesis ; GO:NEW --<hemopoietic stem cell specification ; GO:NEW

stem cell differentiation ; GO:0048863 --%hemopoietic stem cell specification ; GO:NEW

cell differentiation ; GO:0030154 --%hemangioblast cell differentiation ; GO:NEW

hemopoietic stem cell specification ; GO:NEW The process whereby a relatively unspecialized cell acquires specialized features of a hemopoietic stem cell. A stem cell is a cell that retains the ability to divide and proliferate throughout life to provide progenitor cells that can differentiate into specialized cells. PMID: 15378083

primitive hemopoiesis ; GO:NEW A first transient wave of blood cell production that, in vertebrates, gives rise to erythrocytes (red blood cells) and myeloid cells. PMID:15617691 PMID:15378083

definitive hemopoiesis ; GO:NEW A second wave of blood cell production that, in vertebrates, generates long-term hemopoietic stem cells that continously provide erythroid, myeloid and lymphoid lineages throughout adulthood. PMID:15617691 PMID:15378083

hemangioblast differentiation ; GO:NEW The process whereby a relatively unspecialized cell acquires the characteristics of a mature hemangioblast. Hemangioblasts are the proposed common precursor of blood and endothelial lineages. PMID:9670018 PMID:15378083 (should also probably be a child of blood vessel morphogenesis ; GO:0048514) or similar.

Also, based on their definitions, to make it clearer, I think lymph gland hemopoiesis ; GO:0035167 lymph gland hemocyte differentiation ; GO:0035168 (and the children) should be changed to: larval lymph gland hemopoiesis ; GO:0035167 larval lymph gland hemocyte differentiation ; GO:0035168

thanks, Becky

I concur with these term additions and changes.

Thanks,

Added

primitive hemopoiesis ; GO:0060215 definitive hemopoiesis ; GO:0060216 hemangioblast differentiation ; GO:0060217 (Did not relate to blood vessels since they don't all do this.) hemopoietic stem cell differentiation ; GO:0060215 (made this based on the def. Let me know if you need specification)
