How about making the upper term 'ovulation' cycle and these 'related' synonyms. At some point, we may want to make subtypes of ovulation cycle being the subtype 'estrous cycle' and the subtype 'menstrual cycle'. It depends upon community interest in the differences. The question is whether or not it's worth doing this at this point. Ask John Eppig and Mary Ann Handel.

further thoughts.... as we have 'menstrual cycle phase', we should in parallel have a 'estrous cycle phase' with the specific phases of each cycle.

I agree with having 'menstrual cycle processes' and 'estrous cycle processes' available for the specific phases of those cycles. The other terms would remain under 'ovulation cycle'.

Renamed menstrual terms to be ovulation cycle terms. Moved out children that are common to both estrous and menstrual cycles. Created children of estrous cycle based on Dorland's Medical Dictionary.
Added:
estrous cycle phase ; GO:0060206 diesrtus ; GO:0060207 estrus ; GO:0060209 metestrus ; GO:0060210 proestrus ; GO:0060208

We should switch the names and synonyms of the menstrual cycle and estrous cycle terms since the menstrual cycle describes the more specific process as it applies to humans. One major difference between the estrous cycle and menstrual cycle is whether the endometrium is sloughed off or resorbed if pregnancy does not occur. Menstrual cycle should be a narrower than synonym of estrous cycle.
