George would also like the following children of innervation so he can decompose these molecular phenotype terms.
I wasn't sure whether to add them all as separate sf items at this stage but I thought it may be useful to have them all together with the parental request for now. One issue to consider is that some of these terms are named on the basis of the target tissue/cells being innervated and other are named for the nerve/neuron that is innervating which is potentially a bit confusing.

This came up on the annotation list months ago and I failed to follow-up with a sf request...
I don't think there is a term that adequately covers the process of innervation. I think of innervation as the process of supplying nerves to a target tissue and making functional connections with that tissue.
We have nerve maturation - but that doesn't seem to address the tissue that the nerve contacts.
We also have axonogenesis and synaptogenesis which both seem to be part of innervation rather than synonomous with it.
