Thanks for the suggestion. I've reworked it a bit more to match our more recent guidelines for "genus-differentia" definitions, but kept your phrase about the regulatory subunit.

The current definition for this term is very narrow and includes specific molecular weights for the catalytic and modulator subunits, making it difficult to assign regulators that are part of this complex to this term (there are many different ones depending on the complex's function). In addition, it appears the regulatory subunit(s) can activate or deactivate the catalytic subunit
Suggestion: An ATP, magnesium-dependent protein serine/threonine phosphatase (AMD phosphatase) that consists of a catalytic subunit and one or more regulatory subunits that dictates the phosphatase's substrate specificity, function, and activity.
