Hi Rama,
I think that this should probably be a child of GO:0004629, phospholipase C activity.
I know that the definition explicitly states the use of phosphatidylcholine as a substrate, but I think this is too specific for the term and that the definition should be general for phospholipids since there are several phosphatidyl(insert headgroup here)s (e.g. phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine, etc.).
There is a child term under GO:0004629 for "phosphoinositide phospholipase C activity " GO:0004435 and I think your term should be a sibling of this term as well as a child of "glycerophosphodiester phosphodiesterase activity" GO:0008889. We should probably either rename the current phospholipase C term and create a new grouping term, or create a new term for "phosphatidylcholine phospholipase C activity" as a child of the current term.
Just my thoughts.

Julie,
Thanks for your comments. Your suggestions sound good to me.

added phosphatidylglycerol catabolic process GO:0034478 phosphatidylglycerol phospholipase C activity GO:0034479 phosphatidylcholine phospholipase C activity GO:0034480
I've broadened the def of the existing term (GO:0004629) in case it's already been used for gps that act on substrates other than phosphatidylcholine. Presumably something similar could be done for the other phospholipase activity terms, but I'll wait until the need arises (got the protease work looming ...).

Hi,
I would like to request a term in MF and BP ontologies. After some searching, I got all confused with phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidylglycerol etc. Any way, here are my requests. Please let me know if terms already exists that I can use.
1) MF term name: phosphotidylglycerol phospholipase C activity
Catalysis of the degradation of phosphotidylglycerol into diacylglycerol (DAG). (I don't know the exact co-reactants and by products)
Reference: PMID:18434318
Child of (I think!): GO: 30572 phosphatidyltransferase activity
2) phosphotidylglycerol catabolic process child of-GO:0046471 : phosphatidylglycerol metabolic process The usual definition.
Reference: PMID:18434318
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Rama
