Re: amnioserosa morphogenesis, dorsal closure def: The changes in shape and structure that occur to the amnioserosa (an epithelial tissue covering the dorsal side of the embryo) during dorsal closure.
Are you sure that "morphogenesis" is the term you want? Dorsal closure leads to closing of the hole occupied by the amnioserosa, which isn't really morphogenesis (the formation and development of sth).

Hmmm, the papers I was curating stated that 'during DC, the amnioserosa changes from an elliptically-shaped squamous epithelium to a tubular structure. This change in morphology.....'
and 'Dorsal closure of the Drosophila embryo involves morphological changes in two epithelia, the epidermis and the amnioserosa, and is a popular system for studying the regulation of epithelial morphogenesis. '
PMID: 12147138 PMID:11973353 'Drac1 and Crumbs participate in amnioserosa morphogenesis during dorsal closure in Drosophila.'
But you're right..... it is the change in shape or structure, not the development of shape and structure.
I don't want to use amnioserosa development cos it's too broad (and I might need it later for a more general, non DC-specific term). How about 'amnioserosa shape change, dorsal closure' or amnioserosa morphology change'.
What do you think?

Amnioserosa morphology change sounds good to me. Terms added: GO:0046663 leading edge cell differentiation [split 'elongation and differentiation of leading edge cells' into 'elongation of leading edge cells' and the above] GO:0046664 dorsal closure, amnioserosa morphology change GO:0046665 amnioserosa maintenance plus defs put in.

Hello,
Please can I have the following new terms:
term: amnioserosa morphogenesis, dorsal closure parent: dorsal closure ; GO:0007391 parent: morphogenesis of an embryonic epithelium def: The changes in shape and structure that occur to the amnioserosa (an epithelial tissue covering the dorsal side of the embryo) during dorsal closure. ref:
new term: amnioserosa maintenance: parent: embryonic development (sensu Insecta) ; GO:0001700 Maintenance of the amnioserosa once it has differentiated. ref: PMID:8625823
Can determination of leading edge cell identity ; GO:0007393 be made a child of cell fate determination ; GO:0001709
Can'elongation and differentiation of leading edge cells', be made a child of: cell elongation ; GO:0009826 and shape changes of embryonic cells ; GO:0016476 and cell differentiation ; GO:0030154
Also, some suggested definitions for this bit of the ontology.
initiation of dorsal closure ; GO:0007392. Events involved at the start of dorsal closure. (curator definition)
determination of leading edge cell identity ; GO:0007393. Events that cause a specialized group of cells within the dorsal ectoderm (called the leading edge cells) to adopt a specific identity. (Harden, 2002, Differentiation)
elongation and differentiation of leading edge cells ; GO:0007394. The shift in shape of cells at the dorsal-most (leading) edge of the epiderms from being polygonal to being elongated in the Dorsal-Ventral direction. (Harden, 2002, Differentiation)
spreading of leading edge cells ; GO:0007395. Dorsally-directed movement of the cells at the leading edge of the epithelium, over the amnioserosa. (Harden, 2002, Differentiation)
suture of dorsal opening ; GO:0007396. Closure of the dorsal hole. The filipodia extending from each leading edge interdigitate at the dorsal midline and appear to prime the formation of adherens junctions between the two rows of leading edge cells. Newly formed septate junctions are also used to seal the dorsal hole. (Harden, 2002, Differentiation)
garland cell development ; GO:0007514 Establishment and formation of garland cells, a small group of nephrocytes which take up waste materials from the hemolymph by endocytosis. (PMID: 7588884)
germ-band shortening ; GO:0007390 Spreading of the amnioserosa from its compressed state to cover the whole of the dorsal surface. Initiating in the thorax and spreading posteriorly it is accompanied by the transition from a parasegmental to segmental division of the embryo.
head involution ; GO:0008258. Movement of the anterior ectoderm to the interior of the embryo.
oenocyte development ; GO:0007438 Development of small clusters of oenocytes, non-neural secretory cells Ref: PMID: 11171397
amnioserosa formation Transformation of a narrow strip of cells at the dorsal midline of the blastoderm from columnar through cuboid to squamous, accompanied by a lateral shift, to form an epithelial sheet of thin cells called the amnioserosa.
anterior midgut invagination Internalization of the anterior midgut into the interior of the embryo.
cephalic furrow formation Formation of a partial necklace of inturning tissue on the lateral sides of the embryo, along the dorsal-ventral axis. This furrow demarcates head from thorax in the developing fly.
germ-band extension Elongation of the germ band on the ventral side of the embryo, accompanied by an approximate half in width. The elongation process pushes the posterior midgut invagination closed and compresses the amnioserosa even further.
posterior midgut invagination Formation of a cup-shaped invagination at the posterior end of the embryo, bringing the posterior midgut and hindgut primordia into the interior.
determination of anterior border of ventral midline Ensuring the invaginating ventral furrow does not extend too far anterior.
determination of anterior border of ventral midline Ensuring the invaginating ventral furrow does not extend too far anterior.
ventral midline determination Formation of the ventral midline, a future site of neurogenesis, formed from the closing of the ventral furrow.
ventral furrow formation Formation of a ventral indentation (furrow) from the blastoderm epithelium, which is internalized to form a tube in the interior of the embryo, marking the start of gastrulation.
If not indicated, the definitions are modified from the descriptions found in ISBN: 0-879569-423-8
