methionine synthase reductase #54

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

Hi

I'd like to request a new GO function term:

5-methyltetrahydrofolate-homocysteine methyltransferase reductase ; EC:2.1.1.135

synonym: methionine synthase reductase synonym: [methionine synthase]-cobalamin methyltransferase (cob(II)alamin reducing)

See: http://www.chem.qmul.ac.uk/iubmb/enzyme/EC2/1/1/135.html and PubMed: 9501215 (Cloning and mapping of a cDNA for methionine synthase reductase, a flavoprotein defective in patients with homocystinuria)

Parents:

methyltransferase ; GO:0008168, electron transfer flavoprotein ; GO:0008246

(but I think a chemist (as opposed to a geneticist) point of view is needed here!!!!!)

Possible definition: Reduces methionine synthase in a cob(II)alamin dependent reaction

Thanks for looking at this!

Becky

Added GO:0030586. I used '[methionine synthase]-cobalamin methyltransferase (cob(II)alamin reducing)' as the primary term because it's listed as the "common name" on the IUBMB site; the other two names are synonyms.

The new term certainly goes under 'methyltransferase' (GO:0008168). I've also made 'electron transfer flavoprotein' (GO:0008246) a parent for now, but this reminds me that some work needs to be done on electron transporters in general, so it may change.
