comment for obsolete importin (C) terms #562

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

gocentral commented 21 years ago

Regarding the recent obsoletions of some of the 'importin', 'exportin', 'RAN-binding protein', and related terms from component, I'd like to expand the suggested terms in the comment to be 'nuclear pore', 'nucleus', and/or 'cytoplasm' (with appropriate GOids of course). I think this is more appropriate because the "nuclear transport receptors" formerly represented by the importin and exportin terms are not part of the nuclear pore, but cycle between the nucleus and the cytoplasm, along with the Ran GTPase. The Ran binding proteins may have more specific localizations, but aren't solely localized to the nuclear pore either, so more than just 'nuclear pore' should be suggested.

These are the terms I'm aware of where this change to the comment applies:

term: exportin goid: GO:0005651 definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). definition_reference: GO:jl comment: This term was made obsolete because it represents a single gene product and not a complex. Consider instead the cellular component node 'nuclear pore ; GO:0005643'.

term: importin goid: GO:0005646 definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). definition_reference: GO:jl comment: This term was made obsolete because it represents a single gene product and not a complex. Consider instead the cellular component node 'nuclear pore ; GO:0005643'.

term: importin, alpha-subunit goid: GO:0005647 definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). definition_reference: GO:jl comment: This term was made obsolete because it represents a single gene product and not a complex. Consider instead the cellular component node 'nuclear pore ; GO:0005643'.

term: importin, alpha-subunit transport factor goid: GO:0005650 definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). definition_reference: GO:jl comment: This term was made obsolete because it represents a single gene product and not a complex. Consider instead the cellular component node 'nuclear pore ; GO:0005643'.

term: importin, beta-subunit goid: GO:0005648 definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). definition_reference: GO:jl comment: This term was made obsolete because it represents a single gene product and not a complex. Consider instead the cellular component node 'nuclear pore ; GO:0005643'.

term: RAN-binding protein goid: GO:0005645 definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). definition_reference: GO:jl comment: This term was made obsolete because it represents a single gene product and not a complex. Consider instead the cellular component node 'nuclear pore ; GO:0005643'.

term: transportin goid: GO:0005649 definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). definition_reference: GO:jl comment: This term was made obsolete because it represents a single gene product and not a complex. Consider instead the cellular component node 'nuclear pore ; GO:0005643'.

Karen - that makes sense.

If you want to specify which component terms go with which obsoleted terms, I'll make these changes.

Changed the comment for all of the above to:

This term was made obsolete because it represents a single gene product and not a complex. To update annotations, consider the cellular component terms 'nucleus ; GO:0005634', 'cytoplasm ; GO:0005737', and 'nuclear pore ; GO:0005643' and its children.
