NTR: small molecule metabolism #5979

I know this is an item which will never get closed because its too difficult but here goes...

We have grouping terms for macromolecule metabolism, but no grouping terms for "small molecule metabolism" i.e the metabolic pathways which biochemists primarily think of as metabolism, so that that they are grouped seperatly from replication, transcription and translation (which are all cellular metabolism in GO).

I found this a problem in recent genome wide analysis because although there seemed to be enrichment to these pathways (amino acid vitamin, cofactor etc metabolism, there is no grouping term, so this was not easily apparent). I haven't requested a term as yet as I didn't know how to name or define it, but its definately something that is needed.

I'm posting this in the hope that somebody else has some bright ideas, or in case the signaling solution also works here.
