GO new term:stereocilia coupling links def:structures involved in coupling stereocilia to one another in sensory hair cells. There are 4 morphologically distinct types:tip links, horizontal top connectors, shaft connectors and ankle links. Tip links and horizontal top connectors are the only inter-sterocilial links associated with mature cochlea, whereas ankle links appear during development of the auditory hair bundle [PMID: 16775142] is_a: cellular part

GO new term: ankle link complex def: A complex of proteins that connect growing sterocilia in developing cochlear hair cells., composed of Vlgr1, usherin, vezatin, and whirlin. [PMID: 16775142] is_a: protein complex part_of: ankle link (see below).

GO new term: tip link def: A fine filament runs more or less vertically upward from the tip of each shorter stereocilium to attach at a higher point on its adjacent taller neighbor. Tilting the bundle puts tension on the filaments, which pull on mechanically gated ion channels in the membrane of the stereocilia. [PMID: 11087873]. is_a: stererocillia coupling link.

GO new term: ankle link def: A fine filament present in developig stereocilia that couples the bases of individual stereocilia to one another. They are not present in mature stereocilia. [PMID:17567809] is_a: stereociia connecting link.

I'll add if seems reasonable. I'm only adding the children of the 1rst one that I can make out a clear def to.

The main thing I would change is to make the first new term singular, i.e. 'stereocilia-coupling link'. You could also use genus-differentia style wording for the child definitions, e.g. "a stereocilia-coupling link that connects growing stereocilia ...".

One more thing; if these couple stereocilia, would you still consider these is_a cell part, or is_a external region part?

good question. I'm leaning toward cell part, because that's what we do for cell junctions and quite a few complexes that span the plasma membrane.

Good because that is what I just did; GO:0002139-GO:0002142 added.
