NTR: dendrite guidance #6601

Could we have this new term please? I think it should be a sister term of 'axon guidance ; GO:0007411' ( the suggested def is based on that term but I've included a review too).

id: GO:0007411 name: dendrite guidance namespace: biological_process def: "The process by which the migration of a dendrite is directed to a specific target site in response to a combination of attractive and repulsive cues." [PMID:15046878] exact_synonym: "dendritic guidance" [] is_a: GO:0006928 ! cell motion relationship: part_of GO:0048813 ! dendrite morphogenesis

Seems like this is the motion of a cell projection rather than a whole cell - Jane suggests discussing changing the parent at the planned cell motility clinic.

Finally... in the definition of dendrite "A branching protoplasmic process of a neuron that receive and integrate signals coming from axons of other neurons, and convey the resulting signal to the body of the cell." I think receive should be plural.

Cheers, Susan

added dendrite guidance GO:0070983

As I recall, 'cell motion' was intended to cover movement of a whole cell or part of a cell. The definition could do with rephrasing, but I think David (and Doug) will take care of that for the other two open SF items on the topic.
