Hi Stan,
Would 'magnetoreception' (GO:0050958) or any of its descendants do? If not, we can add 'response to magnetism'.

Hi Midori, The data in PMID:19382241 doesn't really fit the definition of magnetoreception. It is cell culture data that doesn't address the mechanism of magnetoreception. The data is certainly downstream of magnetoreception, but I think "response to magnetism" is about as specific as the data warrants. Stan

Hi Stan,
OK, that makes sense. Thanks for checking. I've now added 'response to magnetism,' GO:0071000.

I would like to see "response to magnetism" added to the GO ontology under the parent term "response to abiotic stimulus" (GO: 0009628). The definition could be "A change in state or activity of a cell or an organism (in terms of movement, secretion, enzyme production, gene expression, etc.) as a result of a magnetic stimulus". An example can be found in PMID:19382241.
