Are all promoters double-stranded DNA? #7555

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

Should either GO:0010843 "promoter binding" or GO:0044212 "DNA regulatory region binding" be a child of GO:0003690 "double-stranded DNA binding" instead of just GO:0003677 "DNA binding"?

Hi Mike,

According to PMID:12538860 (A single-stranded promoter for RNA polymerase III), single-stranded DNA promoters are rare, but they do exist.

There are viruses with single stranded genomes, so I wouldn't want to make this change, as proposed, without understand viral transcription better.
