should be sensu saccharomyces. I thought it was a conserved complex but I can't detect S. p orthologs for many components

Hi Val - this paper, which is about Saccharomyces (PMID: 11782438) says that:

'Homologues of Ask1p, Dad1p, Dam1p, Duo1p and Spc34p are present in the Candida albicans and Schizosaccharomyces pombe genome database (Cheeseman et al., 2001; Enquist- Newman et al., 2001; see Supplementary figure10), suggesting that the function of the DDD complex is conserved at least between fungi.'

(they call it the DDD complex - we should add that as a synonym too) and in that paper you cited:

'The finding that Ask1 and other DASH component homologs exist in other organisms indicates that this protein complex will be conserved throughout eukaryotic evolution and is likely to play an important role in regulation of kinetochores in higher eukaryotes.'

So I don't think we really need a sensu term. I can't find this complex being called microtubule binding complex anywhere - do we need that as a synonym?

Hi Jane no sorry ...I think I was just saying that it was a microtubule binding complex...i should try to make my SF entries clearer, sorry!

I don't have the S. pombe orthologs for DUO1 or SPC34 annotated, does the paper provide DB ids for them?

It probably is broadly conserved....at the moment I can't detect any higher eukaryotic orthologs for any of the subunits, but as they aren't very highly conserved there could well be....

Okay -

Suggested parentage:

<kinetochore microtubule ; GO:0005828 <condensed chromosome kinetochore ; GO:0000777 %microtubule associated complex ; GO:0005875

and defintion:

A large protein complex, containing around 8-10 subunits in yeast, including Duo1p, Dam1p, Dad1p and Ask1. Associating with microtubules and kineochores, the complex plays a role chromosome segregation and spindle stability. PMID: 11799062 PMID: 11782438

synonyms:

DDD complex Duo1p-Dam1p-Dad1p complex

comment: Note that although this complex has so far only been described in Saccharomyces , it is likely to be conserved in other eukaryotes.

What d'you think?

Added new term 'DASH complex ; GO:0042729' as described below.
