Recent publications (PMID:18007680, PMID:18000958, PMID: 20065995, PMID: 20200518) have recognized that the type of immune response referred to in the GO as the "T-helper 2 type immune response ; GO:0042092" can in fact be orchestrated by cell types other than T-helper 2 cells (Th2 T cells), such as eosinophils, mast cells, basophils, and newly described cell type, the nuocyte.

GO:0042092 is currently defined as:

An immune response which is associated with resistance to extracellular organisms such as helminths and pathological conditions such as allergy, which is typically orchestrated by the production of particular cytokines by T-helper 2 cells, most notably IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, and IL-13, resulting in enhanced production of certain antibody isotypes and other effects.

Based on these recent publications, I propose to rename and redefine GO:0042092 as follows:

[Term] id: GO:0042092 name: type 2 immune response <---- NEW NAME namespace: biological_process def: "An immune response which is associated with resistance to extracellular organisms such as helminths and pathological conditions such as allergy, which is orchestrated by the production of particular cytokines, most notably IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, and IL-13, by any of a variety of cell types including T-helper 2 cells, eosinophils, basophils, mast cells, and nuocytes, resulting in enhanced production of certain antibody isotypes and other effects." [GOC:add, ISBN:0781735149 "Fundamental Immunology", PMID:18007680, PMID:18000958, PMID: 20065995, PMID: 20200518] <---- REVISED DEFINITION with NEW REFERENCES synonym: "name: T-helper 2 type immune response" NARROW [] <----- NEW SYNONYM synonym: "Th2 immune response" NARROW [] <----- REVISED SYNONYM SCOPE is_a: GO:0006955 ! immune response <----- MOVE TO NEW ONTOLOGY LOCATION

Note the the regulation terms associated with this term will need to be adjusted as to their location in the ontology as well.

Also note that the name, definition, and location of "T-helper 1 type immune response ; GO:0042088" should remain unchanged.

Thanks,

Alex

Alex, that looks fine. Do you just want to go ahead and do that yourself?

Jane,

For better or worse, I don't have CVS access to change the GO -- only David and Harold are meant to edit the GO at MGI. So I would be pleased if you or someone else could implement this for me.

Thanks,

Alex
