Bad URL reference in GO terms #7886

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

Both yesterday and today I have found the URL http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/ , which is used as a reference for 423 GO term definitions, is not responding. Can somebody from the UK check if the site is responsive in country.

If not, we should delete this URL as a reference for the 423 GO terms. I think this points out the problem with using URLs as GO references, and would recommend that PMIDs or ISBNs be utilized in future ontology development as references for GO definitions.

Thanks,

Alex

Can't see it from here either. I've emailed the person who develops it at Newcastle University, will see what he says.

RE using PMID ids for def dbxrefs - fine for specific terms, but for more high-level terms it isn't always possible or useful. Dictionaries are often a good starting point for writing these defs, although we do tend to compose them largely ourselves but still reference the dictionary.

I don't know whether Jane has heard anything, but the cancerweb site is still unresponsive for me. I've changed all of the affected dbxrefs (very few were for general terms).
