Have tweaked definition.
And have emailed BHF to ask them to relook at the complex annotations, suggesting instead to annotate to 'colocalizes_with' or a protein complex binding term.
Thanks, Becky

Current Definition Trimeric protein complex that possesses endonuclease activity; involved in DNA repair and checkpoint signaling. In Saccharomyces the complex comprises Mre11p, Rad50p, and Xrs2p; complexes identified in other species generally contain proteins related to the Saccharomyces proteins. [source: GOC:mah, PMID:11988766]
Please revise too say complexes identified in other species contain proteins orthologus to the Saccharomyces proteins. (this follows from the exact names and the use of "trimeric" in the definiiton.
I notice that this term has annotation of gene products which are not Mre11/Nbs1/Rad50. (inlcuding Human TERF2 andf TERF2 IP). This is a different complex to the one described here (should be captured by a different cpmplex term or a Mre11 complex interacting term)
The term definition should also mention the key role in meiotic recombination initiation. Many many papers but this review can be used PMID: 17674145
