transcription factor activity #8844

It is very hard to find the term which used to corresond to the GO term "transcription factor activity"

Midori tells me this was renamed from GO:0003700

Because "transcription factor activity" was once the term name I wondered if this could have the synonym ? (Midori says that sub-string synonmys are bad). I just think in this case it would be good to find this term higher in the list when you search with this string in Amigo or Quickgo

I think it would be fine to add "transcription factor activity" as a synonym to GO:0003700. In fact, it could be made a broader synonym of sequence-specific DNA binding transcription factor activity (GO:0003700), nucleic acid binding transcription factor activity (GO:0001071) and RNA binding transcription factor activity (GO:0001070) to help with searching.

I've assigned to Karen anyway, as she's probably best placed to decide.

Since Jane indicated that it's reasonable to add the same synonym as a BROAD synonym for multiple terms, I added it for the three she indicated and also "protein binding transcription factor activity", so these four terms:

- GO:0001071: nucleic acid binding transcription factor activity
