ovulation term for worm #912

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

gocentral commented 21 years ago

Ovulation [1542] is a child term of menstrual cycle [42698] and therefore cannot be applied to worm curation. Our worm editors say that worms do "ovulate" because single eggs are pushed into the spermatheca in a cyclical manner (see PMID: 12006659). We would like to suggest that a worm-appropriate ovulation term be added to the ontology.

Drosophila ovulate too, so if possible could any new term incorporate flies aswell please.

see PMID: 11932766, PMID: 11397010

- Changed the wording of GO:0001524 to 'ovulation (sensu Mammalia)'

- added generic 'ovulation' GO:0030728 as part-of 'oogenesis' (GO:0007292) --(can move it if that's not a good place) -- def: The release of a mature ovum from an ovary. ISBN:0878932437

- made 1524 an is-a child of the new term (kept all its existing parents as well)
