Hi Tanya,
Could you or Donghui please look into this request? If not, feel free to assign it to me. A note: GO has GO:0048756 sieve cell differentiation that cross-references to CL:0000294. This is obsolete in the latest release of CL. Explanation says "Consult PO instead". So I guess the Dbxref in GO should change to the relevant PO term.
Thanks, Paola

Re. sieve cell differentiation, I have had a note on a sticky for months that says "GO:0048756 referes to CL:0000294 for sieve cell, but should refer to PO term (once we create one)." I have just been waiting until we create the term to post something about it! It should happen in the next few weeks, and I will let you know the ID asap.

Sounds ok to me. We don't currently use the inheres_in relation in GO so this will be skipped for now.

Assigning to you, Paola. Thanks very much.

Hi Ramona,
Added new terms: GO:0097217 sieve area GO:0097218 sieve plate GO:0097219 compound sieve plate GO:0097220 simple sieve plate
I'm setting this item to pending, so we don't forget about the following: 1) Add definition comment to GO:0097217 sieve area: Part of a sieve element (PO:xxxx). - Will supply PO id as soon as we add the term. 2) Add definition comment to GO:0097218 sieve plate: Typical of angiosperms. Part of sieve tube member (PO:xxxx). - Will supply PO id as soon as we add the term. [QUESTION: Based on the suggested def comment, should this term have a taxon constraint to Magnoliophyta? (Taxonomy ID: 3398)] 3) GO:0048756 refers to CL:0000294 for sieve cell, but should refer to PO term (once we create one). In due time, you may update this SourceForge entry with these info, and I'll update GO.
Thanks, Paola

Thanks, Paola. PO has been updated.
1) sieve element: PO:0025406
2) sieve tube member: PO:0000289 It think it is okay to put the Magnoliophyta restriction on sieve plate. Can't rule out that someone will discover one in some other taxon, but I can't find any cases of it at this time.
3) GO:0048756 sieve cell differentiation should refer to PO:0025415, sieve cell.

Hi Ramona,
I've updated the terms as below, and added the taxon constraint.
Thanks, Paola

Can you please add the following subcellular components to GO?
sieve area: A cell wall part that is a pit-like area in a plant-type cell wall of a sieve element and has as parts pores lined with callose and occupied by strands of protoplasmic material that interconnect the protoplasts of contiguous sieve elements.
comment: Part of a sieve element (PO:xxxx). - Will supply PO id as soon as we add the term.
is_a cell wall part (GO:0044426), part_of plant-type cell wall (GO:0009505);
sieve plate: A cell wall part that is the part of a wall of a sieve tube member that bears one or more highly specialized sieve areas.
comment: Typical of angiosperms. Part of sieve tube member (PO:xxxx). - Will supply PO id as soon as we add the term.
is_a cell wall part (GO:0044426), part_of plant-type cell wall (GO:0009505), has_part sieve area (GO:xxxx);
You could add the relation: callose deposition in phloem sieve plate (GO:0080165) inheres_in sieve plate.
compound sieve plate: A sieve plate that has as parts several specialized sieve areas in either a scalariform or reticulate arrangement.
comment: Often located on an end wall of a sieve tube member. Unspecialized sieve areas may occur on other parts of the cell.
is_a sieve plate
simple sieve plate: A sieve plate that has as part a single specialized sieve area.
comment: Often located on an end wall of a sieve tube member. Unspecialized sieve areas may occur on other parts of the cell.
is_a sieve plate
You can use POC:curators and Esau's Anatomy of Seed Plants (ISBN:0471738433 or ISBN-13:9780471245209) as a reference for all of these terms.
Thanks!
