Hi Randi,
Similarly to your related requests - I'll check with Alex Diehl if he wishes to add anything to your suggested definition. It would help if you could please also suggest placement and references for the new term "antibody-mediated agglutination". Thanks.
Paola

sorry for the delay, I was traveling. Definition: Clumping of the antigen as a result of antibody binding. Examples: Precipitation of a toxin after antibody binds to it and Clumping of viral particles as a result of antibody binding to the virus.

I am not sure if this would be under 'immunoglobulin mediated immune response' GO:0016064 or under 'antigen binding' GO:0003823. It is a process that occurs as a result of antibody binding, which is not a specific term in GO.

Hi Randi and Paola,
The correct term name should be "immune complex formation". Immunologists, rheumatologists, and others use term "immune complex" to refer to antibody-antigen aggregates of varying size and composition. We refer to immune complexes in both GO term names and definitions. We can use "antibody-mediated agglutination" as an EXACT synonym for this term (if we accept that agglutination
Note that "immune complex" is NOT a type of protein complex, and there should be no "immune complex" in the GO as there is no stochiometric-based means of defining an immune complex. There is talk that the Protein Ontology will eventually have a "protein aggregate" class and an "immune complex" term would make sense there. (an "immune complex" SF request was previously made by OBI, but not accepted by GO)
recommended relationships:
"immune complex formation" is_a "immunoglobulin mediated immune response ; GO:0016064" "immune complex formation" has_part "antigen binding"
Thanks,
Alex

Hi Randi and Alex, this is done:
Added new term: GO:0097281 immune complex formation
Thanks, Paola

There are several agglutination terms in GO, but none of them mean 'antibody mediated agglutination': "The clumping of cells such as bacteria or red blood cells in the presence of an antibody. The antibody or other molecule binds multiple particles and joins them, creating a large complex." The terms in GO refer to cellular fusion or the clumping of bacteria via any process. Is this a term that GO can add? The IEDB needs it for OBI import. Thanks.
