7SK snRNA binding #9709

Closed gocentral closed 9 years ago

Hello,

Thank you for sending me the GO terms I asked for.

I would like to request another one: 7SK snRNA binding as child of GO:0017069. For review please see: PMID:21853533.

Many thanks for your help,

Nevila-Hyka Nouspikel

Hello,

I noticed that you've assigned this request to Becky (though I'm not sure that it would be part of the signaling project), so I just wanted to let you know that Becky will be on leave next week. Hopefully you can wait but if not please just leave a comment on this page.

Thanks, Paola

Hello Paola,

Thank you for your answer. I assigned the requested term to signaling pathways, as it will be used to describe a nucleoprotein complex that keeps the CDK9 kinase in an inactive form. I will be very interested if someone else can create it.

Thanks,

Nevila

Hi Nevila, this is done:

Added new term: GO:0097322 7SK snRNA binding

Thanks, Paola

Hi,

Just a thought....... this seems like a "gene product" specific term (should us column 16 to specifiy gene target), especially considering the current clean up under binding, do we want to add new gene product specific terms? ...although there does seem to be a precedent for gene product specific terms under GO:0017069.

I seem to remember that new binding terms should be described in terms of the processes they were involved in ......

Id be interested in a recap as to what the current policy is. as we will have annotations which are not as specific as they could be if gene product specific terms are added routinely.

Could ask Jane or David as they have been working on the binding node.

Hi Val,

I'll certainly ask David and Jane if they wish to comment on this (though please note that Jane is away this week and the next). I added this RNA binding term because, to my knowledge, the most recent discussion and clean-up was about protein binding terms, while I haven't found recent references on the wiki or mailing list about RNA binding, and I'm not sure what plans are in place for that branch of the ontology. The most recent wiki about binding SOP is here:

http://wiki.geneontology.org/index.php/Protein\_Binding\_clean\_up\#GO\_terms\_recommended\_for\_obsoletion

Plus, as you noticed, there are precedents for specific binding under GO:0017069 snRNA binding and the distinction sounded biologically valuable, though I fully agree with you that the same could be captured with annotation extensions.

Thanks, Paola

That's OK I remember now this did apply to proteins...I guess ncRNA's will come later....
