In conversation with @tmushayahama and @pkalita-lbl, there will be some small code tidying for parts of the code that deal with defunct APIs.

In discussion with @pkalita-lbl and @tmushayahama , we'll just go ahead and call the codebase now. @tmushayahama to follow up with some testing.
