Thanks Norman for reporting this crucial issue. I already have a suggestion, which venue could help to solve it: http://goo.gl/maps/rIady. I did not check if there are vacancies in September, though. Just like to start the poll ;-)
@chelmuth Looks cosy to me. Besides, the "... naturally also vegetarian" next to "catering" gives me hope :-) . Also :+1: for not being dependent on BYO beer because it is only a stone's throw from Poland.
I like the venue @chelmuth suggested and propose that we should go for it (if it is available).
@m-stein agreed to contact the Turmvilla.
Unfortunately the Turmvilla is booked out at weekends till the end of the year except the weekend at the 24th of October. I just started searching for alternatives but if anybody has a suggestion don't hold back ;-)
Too bad. What do you think about returning back to the roots and look for a cosy place in Saxon Switzerland?
What about http://www.gutshaus-heeselicht.de/ ?
@chelmuth Very nice!
Is it ok if I assume 12 people for now?
@m-stein That sounds like a good estimate.
The Gutshaus Heeselicht is also booked out from the 18th to the 21st of October but they offered us the weekend from the 10th to the 12th of September.
Hm, any other suggestions?
@chelmuth The links are very useful. I am particularly inclined towards the following options:
But there are several other variants that are also nice.
Update: The Ochelbaude doesn't have a weekend left in September where we could have both quarters and a seminar room.
Update: The Familienoase Königstein could offer us quarters and seminar room from the 19th to the 22nd of September so we would have to postpone the meeting by one day. The offer includes 4 beds with dedicated baths and 10 beds on the hikers-floor with communal toilets. All quarters and the seminar room would be exclusive to us during the whole meeting.
Update: The Ferienstätte Zirkelstein is booked out in September. They recommended http://www.pension-kaiserkrone.eu as alternative.
Even though we already announced the date, I would not mind to shift the date for one day and go for Familienoase Königstein. As a plus, the location seems to have some grass land so that setting up tents (for sleeping) might be possible as well.
From the experience of the last Hack'n'Hike, I loved the idea of leaving on Sunday, but that's not a must. So, I agree with Norman that we could shift the date and would like to see their quotation for the weekend.
Update: The Ferienhaus Wehlen is booked out the whole of September and suggested www.erzgebirge-ferienhaus.de as alternative.
Rehefeld is very beautiful and nearby the Czech border. The only disadvantage is that it is not very well connected to public transportation (in contrast to Königstein).
Update: I've just called Rehefeld and they can offer us quarters and a seminar room from the 18th to the 21st of September. They furthermore assume that we would be the only guests during this weekend as Rehefeld seems to be mainly known for its ski slopes.
So shall we proceed with the Familienoase Königstein from the 19th to the 22nd of September or the Ferienhaus Rehefeld from the 18th to the 21st of September? If we choose Königsstein, shall I reserve fewer than 14 beds because of the campers? (At least I would go camping)
I would definitely favour Königstein because it is very well connected to public transportation and there are many hikes around it. It would be good to check back if camping is possible (see whether the land lord tolerates it and how much he would charge). 10 beds should be okay. If we unexpectedly get more attendees than that, some of us (me included) could still opt to sleep in tents.
:+1:
:+1: Königstein
I've requested an official offer from the Familienoase Königstein (two 2-bed rooms in the main house, one 2-bed room and one 4-bed room on the hikers floor, a seminar room, a camping site for 4 tents, all half board, 19th-22nd of Sept.).
They insisted on half board for the campers on the basis that the campers otherwise might pollute the site with leftovers / grilling stuff.
@m-stein Thanks for getting in touch with Familienoase Königstein. Please make sure that the seminar room is included as well.
What is meant by the term "half board"?
@nfeske: Thanks for the hint. Forgot to list the seminar room. Half board means breakfast and dinner inclusive.
Ahh... That's just perfect. :-)
Unfortunately, Königstein forgot to reserve the 4 beds in the main house for us and now they're not available anymore. As an alternative, Königstein has send us an offer over 10 (2x4, 1x2) beds on the hikers floor. Any objections regarding this?
No objection from my side.
To sum up the current state: We finalized reservation of http://www.familienoase-koenigstein.de during 19-22 September and have still room for more participants.
The next question is: What's the most exciting hike near the venue? Any other proposals for activities like the great caving tour last year?
For everyone who's planning to join us for the Hack'n'Hike: On Friday 19th of Sept. you can join us in Dresden, Friedrichstr. 26 from 11 am till 14 pm to travel together with us towards Königstein. Currently we are organizing a combined hiking and climbing (Stiegen) tour with the guide (http://www.smf-outdoor.de/ - website unfortunately solely in german) we know from last years Hack'n'Hike - there we made a fantastic cave climbing trip. We settled the date for Saturday 20 Sept. The tour will start early in the morning - we have to be in Beuthenfall around 9 am. We will have to see how we get there and try to organize enough cars. If you plan to attend the trip, please drop a note. Will post more details as soon as I have some.
Count me in!
Don't have no car no more.
I may squeeze four climbers beside me in my tiny vehicle.
I'm planning to do the tracks Dresden - Königstein on Friday, Königstein - Dresden on Monday, and eventually also Königstein - Beuthenfall - Königstein on Saturday via bike. If anybody likes to join me, please let me know ;-)

Following the tradition of the past years, we will have another Hack'n'Hike gathering this year - the perfect opportunity to hang out with the Genode crowd, enjoy hiking in beautiful nature sites, and hack on pet projects.
This year's Hack'n'Hike will be held during 18th to 21st of September.
Of course, everyone interested in Genode is welcome to join! If you are interested, please drop a message in this issue or send an email to hacknhike@genode-labs.com.
