All Install packages hang system/optical media will not mount #396

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install MacFuse 
2.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected to be able to read an NTFS formatted partition on my hard drive.
Instead I cannot mount optical media or run installer packages. ALL
packages hang the system, and the specified uninstall scripts do not exist
on my system. 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.7 on OS X 10.4.11

Please provide any additional information below.
The MacFuse installation failed, and I cannot re-install: the package hangs
my system. All other packages hang my system since the failed install of
MacFuse.

Does anything whose name begins with "ntfs-3g" or "ntfs3g" exist in the 
/System/Library/Filesystems/ folder on 
you system?
