I have more info and figured out what was happening
My new kernel 4.9.18 was built with stack protector feature wich was set to strong, recompiling kernel without the future solved the kernel panic
the log is something like this:
Kernel panic - not syncing: stack-protector: kernel stack is corrupted in: fffffffffffff CPU: 3 PID 4382 Comm: vmware Tained: P O 4.9.18-1-pfctl #2 Hardware name> Notebook Calltrace Kernel Offset> disable end kernel panic - not syncing: stack-protector: kernel stack is corrupted in: fffffffffffff
Cheerz!
The following helped me (UKUU Ubuntu Kernal Update Utility)
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:teejee2008/ppa
apt install ukuu
(I just ran the GUI/ Super
+ ukuu
)
uname -r
I went to 4.18.5
(so far its been running good, rebooted twice (Gno-Menu
was buggy). -- so far everything is much faster it feels like a new OS -- no freezing in a few hours.
Hello guys, using the vmware-workstation-12.5.6.5528349 and vmware-modules-308.5.6
on Funtoo linux, debian-sources (kernel 4.8.15) and works like a charm
But upgrading to debian-sources ( kernel 4.9.18 ) when a machine with Windows 10 try to load vmware tools or an installation from fresh install immediately got kernel panic and laptop freezes completely.
Also, I have nvdia-drivers-378.13-r2
