Clarify et al. rule for author citations #10

Closed Etang21 closed 3 years ago

In Trust Issue 100, we found that AER and QJE use et al. in citations with more than three authors, and agreed to follow the same rule for Trust. Our style guide currently uses et al. for citations with more than two authors. @gentzkow, would you like me to update the papers style guide to reflect this rule as well?

Thanks @Etang21!

@jmshapir: We have been discussing our style guide rule for et al. citations. Per above, it looks like the AER and QJE standard is et al. for >3 authors rather than the >2 we currently have in our style guide. Do you have any objection to our changing that to >3?

Happy to discuss offline if that's easier.

@gentzkow happy to align with AER/QJE style on this, thanks.

Great, thanks @jmshapir and @gentzkow, I'll make that change!

@gentzkow I don't have push access to the repository (and also can't assign myself); is there any chance I can be added?

Summary

In this issue, we changed the style guide to request using et al. for citations with > 3 authors instead of > 2 authors. This conforms with AER and QJE.
